AI Ethics & Responsible Feedback

Last updated: February 5, 2026

At StartUpGenie, we believe brutal honesty should never mean cruelty. Our AI is designed to deliver hard truths with constructive intent—to help founders succeed, not to discourage them.

Our Core Principles

1. Constructive Honesty

Our "roasting" is designed to be brutally honest but never mean-spirited. Every critique comes with actionable suggestions. We point out problems AND pathways forward.

2. Idea Confidentiality

Your startup ideas are precious. We never share them with other users, sell them to third parties, or use them identifiably to train AI models. Your ideas stay your ideas.

3. Transparent Limitations

We're clear about what AI can and cannot do. Our feedback is a starting point, not a definitive verdict. We encourage founders to seek multiple perspectives and professional advice.

4. Fairness & Non-Discrimination

We actively work to ensure our AI evaluates ideas on their merits, not on biases about who the founder is. Every startup idea deserves fair analysis regardless of the founder's background.

5. Founder Well-being

Building a startup is emotionally challenging. While we provide tough feedback, we also acknowledge the courage it takes to put ideas out there. Our AI is calibrated to be direct without being demoralizing.

6. No Conflicts of Interest

We don't invest in startups, sell user data to VCs, or have any financial incentive to steer feedback in particular directions. Our only goal is helping you build better.

What Our AI Won't Do

We've explicitly programmed our AI to avoid:

  • Personal attacks on founders or their capabilities
  • Discriminatory judgments based on founder characteristics
  • Absolute predictions about success or failure
  • Advice on illegal activities or unethical business practices
  • Feedback that could cause psychological harm
  • Copying or stealing startup ideas for any purpose

AI Limitations Acknowledgment

We openly acknowledge that our AI:

  • Cannot predict the future or guarantee success/failure
  • May miss nuances that a human mentor would catch
  • Has knowledge limited to its training data cutoff
  • Cannot replace relationships with real mentors, investors, and customers
  • Should be one input among many in your decision-making process

Responsible Use Guidelines

We ask founders using StartUpGenie to:

  • Use feedback as one data point, not the final verdict
  • Seek additional perspectives from mentors and advisors
  • Remember that many successful startups were initially dismissed
  • Focus on learning and iterating, not validation-seeking
  • Respect intellectual property rights of others
  • Report any feedback that seems harmful or biased

Continuous Improvement

We continuously work to improve our AI's fairness and helpfulness. This includes:

  • Regular bias audits of our feedback system
  • User feedback collection and analysis
  • Updates to ensure cultural sensitivity
  • Collaboration with ethics researchers
  • Transparency about changes to our systems

Report Concerns

If you receive feedback that seems unfair, biased, or harmful, please let us know:
